US—TOGETHER WE MAKE IT HAPPEN

The primary challenge of project  management is to achieve all of the project goals and objectives while adhering to the customers expectations, scope of work and budget guidelines.

The project scope is the definition of what the project is supposed to accomplish and the budget (of time and money) that has been created to achieve these objectives.

It is absolutely imperative that any change to the scope of the project have a matching change in budget, either time or resources.

Usually, scope changes occur in the form of  “scope creep”. Scope creep is the pilling up of small changes that by themselves are manageable, but in aggregate are significant.

The discipline of project management is about providing the tools and techniques that enable the project team to organize their work to meet the constraints.

You can not effectively manage the resources, time and money in a project unless you actively manage the project scope.

The Challenge
Project Management is not about being inflexible—its about thinking things through, having strategies for keeping your eye on all of the balls, controlling what you can control and understanding and communicating the consequences of any changes you do make to the project.

Monitoring and Controlling consists of those processes performed to observe project execution so that potential problems can be identified in a timely manner and corrective action can be taken, when necessary to control the execution of the project.
The key benefit is that project performance is observed and measured regularly to identify variances from the project management plan.

Over the course of any construction project, the work scope changes. Change is a normal and expected part of the construction process.

Changes can be the result of necessary design modifications, differing site conditions, material availability, contractor-requested changes, and  impacts from third parties, to name a few.

Beyond executing the change in the field, the changes that effect time and resources must be approved by all major stake holders in the project.
